"Sons of Providence" Wins Washington Book Prize
Charles Rappleye's
Sons of Providence: The Brown Brothers, the Slave Trade, and the American Revolution
,
which I've discussed before
,
has won
the
George Washington Book Prize
, given to the best book written about the era of the Founding Fathers. In addition to the "prestige," Rappley receives $50,000. That's pretty sweet. The other finalists were
A Perfect Union: Dolley Madison and the Creation of the American Nation
by Catherine Allgor and
In the Name of the Father: Washington's Legacy, Slavery and the Making of a Nation
by François Furstenberg.
