The thing with periodization is that rarely do those who live during it, name it. The people living in the Middle Ages didn't think they were in the "middle," after all. That's why postmodern caught on: because we were sure we were after the last "age" (modernity). (In fact, the particular characteristics of what it means to be postmodern could have been anything when the term was first applied!) Anyway, it can make your head hurt...and mine is.Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09263223781051175207noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8250013.post-1147400100702579752006-05-11T22:15:00.000-04:002006-05-11T22:15:00.000-04:00I understand. And, of course, the search for appropriate terms can help sharpen the focus. Right now it is a lot easier to tell what's going out than to see what's coming in.

Equalitarian, I fear, sounds too much like "egalitarian" to catch on.D. B. The next thought I had was "equalitarian" (which is sort of like egalitarian, I guess) though I did notice that it's already being used by at least one "movement" out there. Again, these are just some initial probings.Marchttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09263223781051175207noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8250013.post-1147298186593939772006-05-10T17:56:00.000-04:002006-05-10T17:56:00.000-04:00Thanks for the citation and for the suggestion. I would hope, though, that we could begin to move past the "purposely vague" designation "neocrat" toward one that begins to define the subject more clearly. You can't really study or explain something until you can say with some precision what it is.D. B. Lighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05663484917515894917noreply@blogger.com
